Editorial and Corrections Policy

Caudexology publishes practical caudex and succulent-care guidance written by a roster of invited contributors. This policy explains who writes here, how articles are reviewed, how the site is funded, and how corrections are handled. It is not a substitute for a product label, local extension advice, or a diagnosis by a qualified professional.

Who writes here

Articles are written by practitioners the site's operators know personally—growers, nursery and greenhouse operators, educators, and consultants—each writing inside the scope of their own experience. A contributor's byline links to their profile on the About page, which states their background and the basis of their expertise.

Contributors write from first-hand cultivation, production, or consulting experience. Where an article goes beyond what the author has personally grown or tested, the claim is grounded in the sources cited in the article rather than presented as first-hand observation. We do not use invented credentials or unsupported success rates to strengthen a recommendation.

Peer review before publication

Every article is reviewed by a second contributor from the roster before it goes live. The reviewer's name appears on the article as Reviewed by. Review covers horticultural accuracy, safety boundaries (doses, temperatures, chemical handling), the fit between the advice and the species discussed, and whether limitations are stated honestly.

A review is a professional read-through by a peer, not a laboratory replication. Where growers' experiences genuinely diverge—as they often do across climates and substrates—the article should say so rather than presenting one experience as universal.

Sourcing standards

For care instructions that can affect plant health, safety, or product use, claims are checked against the primary source available for their scope: a product label, manufacturer documentation, extension publication, botanical reference, or peer-reviewed research. Sources are selected for the species, setting, and dose or condition they actually address. A source can support a narrow observation without proving the same outcome in every home collection; that limitation should remain visible in the article.

How the site is funded

Caudexology is funded by the Amazon Associates program: product links in articles may earn a commission at no additional cost to the buyer, and those commissions cover hosting and operations. Contributors choose products for the article's problem first; no manufacturer pays for placement, and a product's availability on Amazon never changes a safety boundary or a recommendation against buying.

Corrections and update notes

We correct factual errors, broken internal links, materially outdated product details, and misleading wording when they are identified. A substantial change receives a dated revision note and a revised modified date. That same date is used for the article's visible update label, structured data, and sitemap lastmod; without a revision note, the original publication date remains the public freshness signal. We do not use future dates or a batch timestamp merely to prompt recrawling.

Minor formatting, accessibility, and non-substantive link repairs may be made without a revision note. When a correction changes a practical recommendation, the article should explain the changed condition or source rather than silently implying that the earlier advice was unchanged.
